Hi Charlie - I think there are a number of issues to deal with here.
I think most companies can benefit from having a company-specific account on the networks even if it isn't the base they use to broadcast their message. From there, I think Dell set a good example with Twitter - combining the name of the employee with the transparency of the company logo and name. As for fanning pages, one page can pick another as a favorite, which solves that problem.
As for transfer of accounts, etc., I think Facebook is forcing organizations into a corner - they want a company profile to use as the base for all registrations, but have to violate the terms of use in order to do it - I'd love to see them come up with a solution.
As for LinkedIn, I think the company profiles are a real problem - no ability for a corp to regulate them, yet the professional nature of LinkedIn lends credibility to them - it's a lose-lose in my opinion.
Thanks for sharing the link and for your comment!

Great issue to post about Kelli! Facebook and LinkedIn are especially difficult when it comes to managing and posting in a corporate or organizational persona. Companies and organizations have similar problems when an active Facebook presence is created through friends and discussions so that the social relationships are with people (as they should be) and not with the company. For this reason it is good to diversify a corporate social media between several people, to prevent dependency on one employee. However the question remains how a company has an offcial voice in social media if it wants to, for instance, participate in online discussions, groups, fan other pages, if it can not have its own profile. Any suggestions?

In a related post, Smashing Magazine reviewed how difficult it was to delete profiles from different Social Media Platforms.
